LYONS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In Lyons, Indiana, Wagler Motorsports Park recently held its graduation from its education and training center, with a crowd of over 700 people.
According to Wagner staff, the center continues to grow. The Wagler education and training center is a state of Indiana approved adult education site. Offering hands-on experience, high school equivalency, and certification opportunities.
Founder and board member, Jeremy Wagler, said their goal is to prepare students and guarantee them interviews with employers.
“In twelve weeks, you can come in, sign up, get your training as needed whether it’s heavy equipment, cdl, welding, and then we put you in a place to basically have interviews and to go out and start making 30 dollars an hour,” said Wagler.
Students can earn certifications in welding, CNC machining, EMT, CDL-A training, school bus, heavy equipment operations, core construction, medical assistant and more.
Hilary Fusco, the adult education director and instructor for GED, said this is also a great option for those who have not yet earned their high school diploma.
“Everybody deserves the opportunity to earn their high school diploma. Whether that’s in public education or another avenue. We can offer that for our students and most jobs require at least a high school diploma,” said Fusco.
All Indiana residents are eligible for the programs. Grants are awarded to those pursuing a high school diploma and college graduates are able to pay in full or utilize scholarships.
Director of training programs, Michelle Ellis, says this year 13 families became self-sufficient without food stamps and Medicaid after graduation.
“Takes out the job search for them and allows them to start working immediately. We provide the tools for them, so it relieves that barrier, so they can enter the workforce with exactly what they need,” said Ellis.
The center is also adding two new programs, medical billing and coding, and HVAC.
