TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Starting July 1, the Indiana Adult Protective Services (APS) will transition to a new model that moves the service away from county prosecutors and to a private contractor.

The transition will move the service away from prosecutors and into 5 regions managed by a private contractor, PCG-IN, according to the Vigo County Prosecutors’ Office.
Vigo County will be one of 26 counties in Region 3.
This move will take APS out of local control, something Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt raised concerns about in May.
“I just think it makes a big difference when you have local people that are doing those jobs, that are acquainted with other people in the community and are familiar with the community,” said Modesitt.
However, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration said the state will implement a social service model that aligns with the principles of RISE (repair harm, inspire change, support connection, and empower choice) to connect people with services in their local area.
“The principles of the RISE model have been shown to reduce the frequency of repeat investigations for APS. Following a social services model means taking a person-centered approach to investigations. We will continue to be focused on connecting people with services in their community to ensure their safety and well-being,” said the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
The Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office said at this time, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration does not have a contact for regional hubs, but all reporting can be made by calling 1-800-992-6978 or online by clicking this link.
