TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After over year a planning, this weekend the community got to see the opening of the Happy Tails Animal Rescue Dog Park.
The grand opening featured food and drink vendors and other pet services. The new park, located in Terre Haute, is intentionally designed with high fences, electronic locks, and an agility course for pets.
CEO of Happy Tails Animal Rescue, Taylor Bullock, said the vision for the park is a safe space for dog lovers to meet and greet each other.
“You want to meet other dog people, you know you have that in common, so it’s just a fun place that you can come here, not know anyone and make friendships. I used to live in Indianapolis, and I didn’t know anybody, and I joined an indoor dog park, and I made so many friendships through it, said Bullock.
What makes this dog park different, is pets must be registered and spayed and neutered for entry. Bullock says they’ve already had 50 people register their dogs. CFO, of happy tails animal rescue, Aaron Childress, says it is great to now have a physical location.
“Our own space for us to have events and do things and to have a place where people, especially responsible dog owners who vet their animals and spay and neuter cane come and know that all the other animals there are going to be the same,” said Childress.
The local animal rescue says they could not have accomplished this without the support of the community. Happy Tails Dog Rescue Park is open dawn to dusk 7 days a week located at Erie Canal and Wheeler, in Terre Haute.
Registration for the dog park is free. You can register your pet for happy tails animal rescue park on their website at Happy Tails Animal Rescue | Animal Rescue in Terre Haute | Terre Haute, IN, USA or Facebook page. Once your dog is registered, you and your pet will have access any day from sunrise to sunset.
