MARSHALL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Friday, the Marshall City Band is celebrating 150 years. The city band was formed in 1875 as an all-boys band with only a few members.
Over the years, the band evolved by allowing women to join in 1952 and catering to their audience with newer music.
Friday night’s performance included songs like “A Disney March Spectacular”, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and much more. Cartha Gusteson and her husband, Richard, have been performing in the band for many years, and they even met each other in the band.
“That’s how we hooked up and became connected,” said Cartha Gusteson, trumpet player and secretary treasurer for the Marshall City Band. “And he celebrated his 50th year in the city band before he passed away. So, I’m glad to carry on that tradition. Music is a big part of me and my husband’s life. We’ve played in several bands throughout the Wabash Valley, and this is home.”
Marshall City Band will be performing every Friday night at the Clark County Courthouse. For more information on upcoming events, you can visit their Facebook page.
