JASONVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With the recent hot and humid temperatures, many people have been able to cool off at the Shakamak State Park pool.
As WTWO recently reported, there had been discussions at the state level to not open the pool for the summer. Since then, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed to WTWO back in April that the local pool would open for the 2025 season.
Recently, the local pool has seen an uptick in visitors, as the pool is opened 7 days a week. Assistant Manager of Shakamak State Park, Amanda Hinkel, says the availability of the pool benefits the community and the state park.
“It’s great for the community. Great for our visitors here. And great for all of our campers that come here and stay. It does bring people in from across the state to come here enjoy our pool as well the property as a whole,” said Hinkel.
Looking ahead, Shakamak State Park has many upcoming events planned for the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Halloween. Plus, the local park will celebrate a big milestone in the upcoming years.
“This park has been here since 1929, so there’s a lot of history,” said Hinkel. “And we are fast approaching our one-hundred-year anniversary and I’m sure we’re going to be doing something special for that event.”
The Shakamak State Park pool is opened 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission for adults is $3 and children are just $2.
