CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— Families with young children in Clark County can now get them started on a love of reading.
According to a news release from the Marshall Public Library, children under the age of five can now receive a book for free in the mail each month in Clark County. The program sends out age-appropriate books to the homes of registered children to encourage a love of reading from a young age and help prepare them for school.
Clark County’s participation in the program was made possible thanks to support from Gerald and Jean Forsythe, who sponsor the Marshall School District, the Rural King Foundation, which sponsored the remainder of Clark County, and the Friends of Marshall Public Library, who will be serving as the program’s administrator.
“We are thrilled to help bring Dolly Parton’s vision of a book in every child’s home to life here in Clark County,” said Marshall Public Library Director Alyson Thompson. “Early literacy has a lifelong impact, and this program gives families a simple and joyful way to nurture a love of reading.”
