ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Parke County Public Library will be hosting a free event featuring historical storytelling and music.
The event is called the Patriotic Chautauqua. A Chautauqua is defined by Oxford Languages as “an institution that provided popular adult education courses and entertainment in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.” Merriam-Webster says that the word comes from the events that were modeled after activities at the Chautauqua Institution of western New York.
The event promises to have historical storytellers, a live bluegrass band, and food trucks on site. The event will start with storytellers Gary Randolph and Ken Oguss. Glory June Greiff will then be performing a dramatic reading. Following this Murray Cox will be portraying Abraham Lincoln.
The event begins at 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on June 28 at Beechwood Park. The event is free and open to all ages. Donations will also be taken at the event to be used on future improvements to the park.
