SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It’s that time of year when festivals take place across the Valley and today there was an event that has been around for decades.
Shelburn Old Fashion Days brings the community together for lots of fun activities. Today, Shelburn hosted their old fashioned days event. The day kicked off with a parade, featuring the high school football team, cheerleaders, and community officials and members. Families eagerly awaited on the sidewalk to cheer on the parade. Other festivities included food trucks, cornhole, and more. Town marshal and organizer, Matthew Price, says this event is about community enrichment.
“For cohesion, for us to come together, and to work together and to you know live in the same and enjoy our social life together here in the community and allows us to meet and greet and talk and just come together as a whole,” said Price.
The festival is open for any age. The festival also had 16-year-old small business owner, Esse Harbey. Harbey business is called essential crochet and creates handmade creations from scrunchies and hats, to little creatures. Harbey regularly donates 50% of her proceeds to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, but during this festival, she is donating 100% of her proceeds.
“I go to riley hospital myself, so I decided I might as well give back to someone else,” said Harbey.
Bringing the community together through kindness, generosity, and good old-fashioned fun. Today was the last day of their festivities, but this event will be back next year.
