BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man was arrested in Clay County after a “large amount of methamphetamine” was found inside his vehicle, according to the Clay County Sheriff.
On Monday afternoon, June 16, a Clay County Deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Brazil, Indiana area for an infraction.
During the stop, a Clay County Sheriff’s Office K9 indicated illegal substances may be inside the vehicle, leading to the vehicle being searched.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, along with two loaded handguns and U.S. Currency, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, David Childress, 34, of Terre Haute, was arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail on charges of dealing in methamphetamine, a level 2 felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a level 3 felony.
As a result of the traffic stop, the Clay County Narcotics Investigators, assisted by the Vigo County Drug Task Force, searched Childress’s residence. During that search, additional evidence was located, including another large amount of methamphetamine and more firearms, according to officials.
A report is being forwarded to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for additional charging information, said the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
