VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Farm Credit Mid-America, Rural 1st® and Purdue Extension Vigo County have partnered together for a state-wide food drive contest that will benefit local food banks.
“Fight the Hunger, Stock the Trailer,” presented by Farm Credit Mid-America, is a friendly competition that challenges county fairs to gather food donations for local food banks across Indiana.
From July 5 to July 12, local community members can bring non-perishable food to the Vigo County Fair. People who donate at least 10 food items will receive a complimentary state fair ticket. Food donations must be placed at the Exhibit Hall during accepting hours — Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. — to receive the complimentary tickets.
The total weight of all the donations will be totaled at the end of the fair, with 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and cash prizes will be awarded to the fairs that raised the most.
Each county fair that participates will receive a $500 award, a $5,000 donation will be awarded to the fair that raises the most, followed by $1,500 for second place and $500 for third place.
