MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— Lake Land College and the local rotary club will be hosting events to celebrate Juneteenth.
The college will be hosting its event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Luther Student Center. The event will be open to students, staff, faculty, and community members. The event will include activities, giveaways, a magic show, a black-owned business fair, food, and music. There will also be a group meditation and free hair tinsel, and glitter tattoos from the Cosmetology students.
The Rotary Club of Mattoon will be sponsoring a walk for the holiday that will go to support the Lake Land College Opportunity Fund. The fund provides assistance to students who face financial barriers. The club plans to donate $10 for every person who completes a half-mile or full mile during the event, up to $1,000.
Walking paths will have both an indoor and outdoor option and will have half and full miles marked. Each guest who completes the walking path or donates $10 or more dollars to the opportunity fund will be entered into a drawing for a prize where the winner will be announced that will be announced at the event’s conclusion.
