CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Clinton held a caucus on Saturday morning to elect a new mayor, who will serve in replacement for late Mayor Jack Gilfoy.
John D. Moore was elected by the caucus, but he is no stranger to serving in Vermillion County. He has previously served on the Clinton City Council, and has served as the President of the Vermillion County Redevelopment Commission since 2020.
For Moore, the election comes with a variety of emotions, nervous and excited. But, he knows he has some big shoes to fill.
“The former mayor was in his third term, he was very popular. He had a vision,” said Moore. “My main objective has tried to help carry the vision he had, try to finish it or at least get far enough along that it could be easily finished.”
Moore will serve the remainder of late Mayor Jack Gilfoy’s term until 2027.
Ward 2 Councilman Chuck Procarione served as interim mayor before the caucus elected Moore. Procarione will continue to serve as Clinton City Council President.
