BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Brazil Concert Band will be performing at the Clay County Bicentennial as a way to honor the county and the death of a longtime member.
Matthew S. Huber will be leading the band in performing their show “Happy 200th Birthday Clay County!” on June 22. Members of the Clay County Bicentennial Committee will be at the show handing out free souvenirs and selling shirts to commemorate the county’s creation in 1825.
The concert will also pay tribute to the memory of a long-time member of the concert band, Francis Massinon. Massinon was known for composing several marches, and members of the family will be in attendance for the event.
The band plans to play a multitude of school songs from throughout the years of the various high schools of Clay County, as well as modern ones from Clay City and Northview. Some of the former high schools being remembered are Van Buren, Staunton, Brazil, Cory, Ashboro, Coalmont, and Bowling Green. They will also include several other songs, including three worked on by Massinon.
The event will take place at Forest Park at 8 p.m., rain or shine. The Brazil Main Street will also have an information table with free items at it. The Park Stand will also be operated by the Brazil Elks for the event, serving their tenderloins. For more information, you can visit this link or the Brazil Concert Band’s Facebook Page. The band performs at Forest Park each Sunday night from June to August.
