MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)—The Merom Bluff Chautauqua is being canceled this weekend for the first time in its 59-year history.
Organizer Bob Tomey told WTWO that the flooding at the Merom Bluff has forced the decision to cancel this weekend. He added that the rain created a ponding issue, so they couldn’t get vendors onto the site.
Organizers said they spent several hours Thursday morning notifying vendors and performers.
“I think everybody understood. Most of the area is having this rain, so I think everyone understood the situation and the problem. Of course, we’re left with a lot of supplies that we already had in, but we have storage for that,” said Tomley.
Tomley said they plan to reschedule a shorter event with food and entertainment, but adds that it won’t be like a normal Chautauqua. He said once those plans are made, they will publicize them.
