SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Department of Transportation has provided an update on the expected construction of the railroad crossing on US 41 in Shelburn.
As we previously reported, Cathcart Rail owns the tracks and made plans to remove the tracks from the highway at the end of May.
According to Sullivan County Councilwoman Jackie Monk, during a meeting, commissioners later asked Cathcart Rail to wait to begin the project after school let out for summer.
In an email this week, Steve Chovan, the Corporate Controller for Cathcart Rail, told Monk that the project will begin “next week.”
WTWO reached out to INDOT about the upcoming repair work. According to Gary Brian, INDOT has been informed that the work on the railroad track will begin on or around June 2. One lane of traffic in both directions will remain open.
Weather permitting, the work is expected to take two weeks.
