CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Clinton held an emergency meeting on Thursday afternoon to elect a new council president, who will also serve as interim mayor in replacement for late Mayor Jack Gilfoy.
The mayor’s office being temporarily vacant due the City Council President J.T. Walker who assumed the duties of interim mayor, submitting his resignation letter for City Council earlier in the week.
Remaining members of the Clinton City Council have now elected Ward 2 Councilman Chuck Procarione to serve as City Council President and interim mayor with plans to continue late Mayor Gilfoy’s agenda.
“We’re going to continue on the plan the council had. Mayor Gilfoy had a lot of detailed stuff going on,” said Procarione. “We’ve got a big sewer project going, which is going to continue. We just need to get back to the day to day operations. There’ll be no major changes at this time.”
Looking ahead, a caucus has been schedule to elect a replacement for the Mayor of Clinton, and serve through the end of 2027. The caucus is set to be held at the Clinton Public Library on Saturday, June 14th at 11 a.m.
Those interested in being a candidate for mayor must submit their name before Wednesday, June 11th at 11 a.m.
