TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Terre Haute Police have released the name of the victim of the shooting victim at the Candlewood Suites earlier this month.
According to a press release from Terre Haute Police Lt. Justin Sears, “the victim has been identified as Jamie Munoz, 32, of Mexico. His family has been notified, and they have since claimed his remains and transported him back to Mexico for funeral arrangements.”
The alleged murderer is Wilson Chavez, who has been charged with murder, criminal recklessness, and unlawful possession of a handgun, Lt. Sears stated.
Lt. Sears noted that “during the booking process at the Vigo County Jail, Chavez voluntarily informed deputies that he is in the United States illegally. It has been confirmed that Chavez was in the City of Terre Haute working for Champion Contractors and Services, a company based in Round Rock, Texas, that specializes in storm damage repairs. A current ICE immigration hold has been placed on Chavez.”
The Terre Haute Police Department continues to work closely with the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure a complete and thorough investigation, Lt. Sears added.
“It has not yet been determined whether federal authorities will assume jurisdiction in this case,” said Lt. Sears.
Sears went on to add, “our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family during this difficult time. Further information will be released as permitted.”
