CENTER POINT, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— One family continues the legacy of a camp in Clay County with more than 100 years of history.
The Keyes family purchased Camp Krietenstein in Center Point, Indiana, from the Crossroads of America Council. The property is more than 150 acres. It includes a lake, shelters, a shower house, and a dining hall. It has room for more than 200 campers. Managing Partner Joe Keyes said they’re proud to continue the camp’s legacy and watch it grow.
“I feel proud to be part of you know the team that’s going to continue to run this facility and started in 1922 when Mr. Krietenstein donated it to the Wabash Valley Boy Scouts of America. It seemed several updates and modifications throughout the years.”
Kelly Keyes is the Director of the camp. she said the camp has a lot of meaning to past campers, and now it can be a place for young people to put down their electronics and tune into nature.
“This is a pretty exciting opportunity that I have to help run this camp and to be with my family out here. This camp just means a lot to not only my family but to all the scouters who’ve come before, and it’s exciting to have a place that kids can get off their phones and connect with nature.”
She said reservations are needed to visit. She added that they’ll have a website coming soon. To learn more, people can email Kelly@campkrietenstein.org.
