VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With summer nearing, the Vigo County Health Department wants to remind the community the importance of taking care of your skin, especially during the summer months.
UV radiation is generally the strongest during the spring and summer months, specifically between April and August. As you spend more time outside, it is important to protect your eyes and skin from UV radiation. For example, using sunscreen and reapplying is key.
“Just as important it is to initially use sunscreen, is also the reapplication of sunscreen every two hours,” said Shelby Jackson with the Vigo County Health Department. “That’s the critical point. You don’t want to forget reapplication of sunscreen.”
The effects from UV radiation can include sunburns, types of skin cancer, eye damage and immune system suppression. Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer across the United States.
If you have any questions or concerns can contact the Vigo County Health Department anytime.
