GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In light of the tornado and storm damage in recent days, officials in Greene County are warning residents to beware of scammers trying to take advantage of the situation.
The Director of Greene County EMA, Rodger Axe, said residents should be cautious about people who offer quick, affordable fixes to storm damage.
Scammers often pray of the victims of storms, like the ones we saw last week.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security urges residents to do their research before hiring a contractor. They say to verify their credentials, check their ID/license and make sure the contractor is bonded and insured. They say to also get multiple estimates and never pay with transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency or cash.
