WASINGTON, D.C. (WTWO/WAWV)— Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) introduced the Safe Home Act dealing with transgender children and the foster care system.
The legislation, if passed, would not allow agencies receiving federal funding for adoption and foster care to delay or stop a child’s placement based on the parent wanting to raise the child according to their biological sex. Representative Mary Miller (IL-15) is leading the bill in the House.
“Kids deserve safe, loving homes, and parents shouldn’t be blocked from adopting or fostering just because they oppose irreversible sex-change procedures on children,” said Senator Banks. “This bill makes sure families aren’t punished for using common sense.”
The act will also prohibit requiring any medical, surgical, or psychological treatments to change or match a child’s appearance or perception to align with another gender other than their biological sex. This act aims to give full control of medical and mental health services for adopted or foster children to the parents.
“We must defend the rights of parents to raise their children in a way that reflects reality and safeguards their future,” stated Miller. “The SAFE Home Act ensures that parents are not excluded from adopting simply for having common sense and standing against dangerous gender ideologies that threaten the well-being of children.”
