TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A 27-year-old Terre Haute man was arrested Wednesday after an armed robbery of a Dollar General.
According to a Facebook post from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 4:18 p.m. Wednesday to the Dollar General located at 5781 North Clinton Road for a robbery. Dispatch provided deputies with a description of the suspect and that he displayed a knife during the robbery. The post states that they were also informed he was moving southbound, pushing a Dollar General cart full of stolen items.
The post states that when a deputy located the suspect, he exited his vehicle and gave verbal commands to him. The post continues stating that the suspect did not comply, and a taser was deployed. A fight then broke out between the deputy and the suspect. During the altercation, the deputy was hit in the face by the suspect. When other deputies arrived on the scene, they were able to take the man into custody.
The suspect was identified as Kibwe Maloba. He is being charged with robbery, battery against a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, theft, and criminal mischief. The suspect and the responding deputy were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the deputy was later released.
