BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: We have learned more about an early morning accident that caused a power outage in Brazil today.
According to Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen, the single vehicle crash was near Hendrix and Epworth Streets.
“The driver swerved to avoid an animal in the road. He then ran off the roadway and collided with a utility pole. This caused a power outage in the area. He declined medical treatment at the scene,” said McQueen.
As of 1 pm today the 77 customers still remain without power. However, Duke Energy had a large presence on scene working to replace the transmission pole.

ORIGINAL: 77 people remain without power this morning following an early morning crash within the city limits of Brazil.
According to Rick Burger of Duke Energy, they were called out at approximately 4:30 am for a power outage after a vehicle had struck a transmission pole on Hendrix St.
“It did affect the hospital (St. Vincent Clay), but we had them back up and running within an hour. They did have a generator,” said Burger.
Duke Energy has to replace the pole; therefore, those still without power this morning should be restored by early afternoon.
