TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A new bill written by Senator Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) has been voted through 39-3 on April 17 and now heads to the governor’s desk.
Senate Enrolled Act 448 (SEA 448) is stated to strengthen the Indiana Commission on Higher Education in its ability to approve programs at public colleges and universities, and review new and existing degree programs to ensure both growth in enrollment and connectivity to workforce demands. SEA 448 will also allow the Indiana Secretary of Education to be more diligent in creating what the bill refers to as “stackable” credentials. This would allow students to earn multiple credentials at once for completing courses that have overlapping requirements.
“This bill places the success of our future workforce at the forefront of Indiana’s post-secondary education system,” Goode said. “I am optimistic that this legislation and its added measures will be pivotal in offering our students the pathways they need to feel prepared in a constantly changing economy.”
