FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The town council for Farmersburg has decided to change stop signs at different intersections throughout town.
According to a Facebook post by the Farmersburg Police Department, this decision was made after the council received a recommendation from the Police Department to make the changes. The street department will be changing the signs soon, and the council hopes this will reduce the redundancy of the stop signs in a few areas. This will also allow the street department to place stop signs in areas they believe are required for better safety.
The locations are as follows:
- 1st Street and Hopewell Street – only eastbound traffic will have to stop.
- 1st Avenue and Hopewell Street – stop sign was removed due to there no longer being an intersection only a right angle turn
- Franklin Street and East Street – eastbound Franklin at the intersection must now stop
The Turner Subdivision will also have Gallagher Avenue as a thoroughfare. Stop signs have been added to 2nd Avenue and Gallagher, where those on 2nd Avenue now have to stop. There have also been signs added at 5th Avenue north and southbound with Gallagher Avenue where traffic on 5th Ave must now stop.
Officers with the police department have stated that they understand that the new signs may take residents time to get used to and that they will be out to educate drivers and not issue citations over the next few weeks.
