TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Many people do spring cleaning this time of year and Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun is reminding residents of the services available for recycling.
He said Vigo County Solid Waste Management offers a great recycling program, and he encouraged people to check out their website. He also said the city’s cardboard and plastic recycling center at the Street Department on Deming Street is doing really well. City residents can also use the 311 system for large item pickup. Mayor Sakbun said Terre Haute recently finished its spring cleanup and discussed the importance of working together to keep the city clean.
“Redevelopment and Engineering, they’re on track to take down 120 condemned buildings this year. That is a huge increase from previous years,” said Mayor Sakbun. “Those are the larger projects. The smaller projects are ‘hey, can we get this old couch or old microwave off the street or off the back alley, and into the right place where it needs to go to?'”
Mayor Sakbun said the city gets a lot of calls about glass recycling and explained that the Solid Waste Management facility on Haythorne accepts glass.
