TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — April 22 is Earth Day. It’s a day when people all across the globe highlight the importance of protecting the environment, and on Wednesday, Indiana State University held its annual Earth Day on the Quad celebration.
Students and community members who attended the event were able to grab a meal from local vendors, meet some alpacas, and enjoy a nice day in the sun. Attendees were also able to walk around the quad and speak with community organizations and campus programs.
Indiana State’s Director of Sustainability, Cayle Moreo, said supporting local organizations is a perfect way to be environmentally aware.
“Earth Day is founded on a call to action to the community, and if people are looking for a way to be more environmentally conservative, or looking for a way to help build community resilience, supporting local businesses is one of the easiest ways to do that. Just eat locally and seasonally, shop local whenever you can, and support our local charities and non-profits,” said Moreo.
Moreo added that throughout the whole month of April, the university will be holding events to bring more awareness to sustainability.
