TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— On Thursday a special ceremony was held for the city of Terre Haute officially raising it’s new flag.
The ceremony took place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday right outside city hall. Our reporter Brayton Riley was there for the flag raising ceremony and joined us live.
Brayton was at the Terre Haute City Hall courtyard where city leaders were about to raise the city’s new flag for the first time. The flag is being raised by the new flag committee, city council members, and the mayor.
The mayor spoke to the crowd at city hall about the significance of this new flag. The flag was designed by Kristin Tony and was selected during the Terre Haute Flag Contest in May of last year. The new design features a dark blue background that represents the Wabash River, with a gold and white cross that has a sycamore leaf in the middle.
The city says the new flag represents a new vision for the city and symbolizes unity, growth, and civic pride. The city also says the ceremony marks a significant milestone in the city’s history.
