TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local gas station has suspended gasoline purchases after water was discovered in its gas tanks.
A representative from the Vigo County Weights and Measures confirmed to WTWO this morning that the Phillips 66 at 501 South 3rd St. had water in the gas tanks.
“On April 7, I saw a social media post about a person who got water in their tank,” the representative said.
They saw the post at 2:14 pm and immediately went to the station. After testing the tanks, the gas pumps were shut down by 2:45 p.m.
“The owners were very supportive. They still have the convenience store open and are able to sell diesel fuel. They are hiring a service to come in and clean the tanks. We will check again after they are cleaned to ensure they are safe to use,” the representative noted.
Vigo County Weights and Measures are monitoring the situation and confirmed the station still had those pumps shut down as of Wednesday morning.
The phone number for the station listed on their website has been disconnected.
