TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man was charged with intimidation against an elected official, the Indiana State Police said Tuesday.
Robert L. Bennett, 55, was arrested on April 7 after he allegedly posted harassing and threatening statements on social media platforms against Jim Lucas, an Indiana State Representative, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames, .
Indiana Capitol Police authorities contacted detectives of the Putnamville State Police Post regarding social media posts made on Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly Facebook) and voicemails making threats and harassing statements toward Lucas, Ames said in a news release.
ISP detectives immediately began investigating, and a search warrant was obtained through Vigo Superior Court Division 1. Based on preliminary findings as a result of the search warrant, Bennett was interviewed and subsequently arrested and incarcerated at the Vigo County Jail. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. Bennett is facing four counts of intimidation.
