TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAW) – It’s Shoe Bus Week in Vigo County, a time to raise awareness about the Terre Haute Women’s Club’s efforts to provide shoes to local children in need.
Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun made a proclamation on Monday recognizing the week as Shoe Bus Week. It leads up to the club’s spring fundraiser on April 12.
Money raised helps the club continue its mission of providing a new pair of athletic shoes and two pairs of socks to Vigo County children in need. The club helps up to 1,200 children each year.
“Something as simple as shoes can really help a student not just during the school year but even during the summer. Whether it’s backpack drives, shoes or baby drives, there’s always an opportunity to help others, right, live some of those core values that we are taught in kindergarten, that we were taught in Bible study and really execute that in a modern day society,” said Mayor Sakbun.
The club’s spring fundraiser, called Cruise For Shoes: A Tasting Trip Around the World, lets attendees try food and drinks representing six countries. The event is taking place Saturday, April 12, at 6 p.m. at Hulman Center. Tickets are $65 each and are available to purchase here. You can learn more about supporting the club’s Shoe Bus Project here.
