VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local authorities responded to several water rescue calls throughout the weekend.
Multiple roadways across the Wabash Valley had to be closed due to high water. Authorities remind people to never drive over water-covered roadways. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said Monday the city worked closely with Vigo County Commissioners and EMA all weekend to address areas with high water.
“What we did do is sometimes, whether it was a state road, a county road or a city street, we had a lot of communication channels where we put the right individual, the right employee, in charge of that situation. The focus now is debris clean-up and trying to get as much of that water pumped away as possible,” said Mayor Sakbun.
The American Red Cross, located in the Meadows Shopping Center in Terre Haute, is offering free clean-up kits to residents impacted by flooding. The kits can be picked up from April 7 through April 11 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
