SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Tuesday, the city of Sullivan was forced to close the bathrooms at Sullivan City Park due to vandalism.
Sullivan Mayor J.D. Wilson said that there were multiple items broken within the restrooms along with minor damages to the doors. He said that with so many great things happening in the city leading into this week, it is a shame that this happened right when more and more people were starting to make use of the park.
“To see that happen in the city park bathrooms especially this time of year when there are so many people enjoying the city park,” said Wilson. “We keep are park nice, kept up, and to see this happen was something that I did not like to see.”
Wilson said that they are still waiting for the estimates to come back to determine how much these damages will cost. He said as the search for the suspects continue, they are going to get these facilities back open as soon as possible.
“We want to make sure that we provide the best facilities for the people of Sullivan and the surrounding counties who come and enjoy our city park,” said Wilson. “Seeing this was very disappointing, but we are going to get right back at it by cleaning it up, getting it fixed and repaired, find out who did it and take proper action there, and have it back open soon for everyone to enjoy.”
Wilson added that if anyone has information on who may have done this, they need to call the Sullivan Police Department or City Hall.
