VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Do you have old tires lying around that you need to get rid of? The Knox County Health Department wants to help.
They’re teaming up with the Knox County Highway Department and Knox County Solid Waste Management to sponsor a tire recycling day. It’s gonna be this Saturday, March 29th, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Knox County Highway Department located on Old State Road 67. All you have to do is show your ID to prove you’re a resident of the county. From there, you’ll unload your tires onto a semi-truck to be taken to be recycled.
“Old tires lying around are places for mosquitoes to breed, they’re places for varmints to hide and breed and getting rid of old tires in yards and by the side of the road helps our community look better it’s helps people take pride in their community.” said Alan Stewart M.D., a Knox County Health Officer.
There is no charge and no limit to the number of tires you can bring, but tires with rims will not be accepted. Stewart said they also will not take tires from commercial entities. This event is for private individuals only, but they will accept them from farms. The hope is to make this an annual event for the county.
