NORMAL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — At Illinois State University, a potentially life-saving app that can train anybody on how to administer Narcan in the event of an overdose was developed.
The program is called VENT (Virtual Reality-Embedded Training) and is a joint development between Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University. The program was developed by Matt Kase a graduate student at Illinois State University.
The program is now available on the Apple Vision Pro and is a mixed reality software.
“I’ve gone through some of the face-to-face training. I think I can say confidently, you know, doing the simulation has really cemented that in my mind. Like I feel like I did it. I do feel competent. Like if I was at an overdose situation, I’d know what to do,” said Roy Magnus, Director of Emerging Technologies for Instruction and Research.
The program was built from February until May last year and then was tested from May until December.
