TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Some local elementary students took a special field trip today to embrace the art of music.
The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra held its Adventure Concerts at Tilson Auditorium. Fourth graders from schools around the area were invited to experience the joy of music with familiar songs played by the symphony. Organizers say the purpose of this program is to engage the kids and inspire a love of music. They say they feel this is the most important music education program they offer to the community.
“There’s just a lot of literature that shows that if students take up an instrument and get involved in music that they do simply better at everything and so it’s an exciting way to connect to the community and and the arts of your environment.” said Greg Bierly, a member of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra’s Board of Directors.
The adventure concerts are a tradition that goes back many years. There were nearly 3,000 students from schools across the area who attended.
