TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saturday morning, Rose-Hulman was host to Sonia Math Day.
Rose-Hulman mathematics professors and student math majors led girls in fun-filled events with topics ranging from probability and statistics in games. This also included discussions and campus tours to show students that their futures in mathematics are unlimited.
The theme was defying gravity and logic, and honored Sonia Kovalevsky, the first woman in Europe to earn a doctorate in mathematics, whose pioneering contributions changed the field for good.
Sonia Kovalevsky days have been held at colleges and universities for over 20 years to celebrate her legacy.
