TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Honey Creek Fire Department has established a Structure Collapse Entrance Rescue Team.
After the Sullivan tornado in 2023, the department realized there was not a team that could do this within 100 miles. This team will be able to go inside buildings that have been hit by storms or vehicles, shore up the structure, and perform rescues.
Honey Creek Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Jon Shackelford said it is an honor to provide this service to the community.
“Having this resource available in Vigo County, which will be available tonight after this training is completed, is proving a good service for our community,” said Shackelford.
Shackelford said they hope to expand this program to other fire departments in the future.
