TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross is asking people to donate on Red Cross Giving Day, March 26, to ensure no one faces disaster alone.
During the first 50 days of 2025, the Red Cross said, volunteers responded to more big disasters in the U.S. than days in the year. In Indiana, this included winter weather in January and recent severe weather this month.
Due to this severe weather in 2024, more Red Cross blood donations have gone uncollected, according to a press release.
As we enter spring disaster season, the Red Cross is asking people to make a financial donation or give blood to help families and individuals who may need future assistance due to a disaster.
Here’s how you can help.
Make a financial donation:
Donations will be part of the Red Cross Giving Day, which aims to rally 30,000 individuals to help people affected by a disaster. Donations can be any size big or small, the Red Cross said any sized gift makes a difference.
“A gift of any size makes a difference. For example, a donation of $3 can provide a comfort kit with supplies like a toothbrush, comb and shampoo, and a gift of $11 can provide a nutritious meal, snack and drink.”

Give a blood donation:
To help overcome the significant weather impact on blood donations, the Red Cross is urging people to make an appointment and give lifesaving blood. People of all blood types are needed to help avoid further strain on the blood supply. So, make sure you schedule an appointment at RedCrossBlood.org, on the Red Cross Blood Donor App or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS
Additionally, all who give blood, platelet and plasma donations in March will receive a free $10 Amazon gift card via email.
