MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— Lake Land College will now be offering a new Substance Abuse Counseling concentration for their Human Services Program.
Beginning this Fall Semester, the program will be allowing a new concentration for students to learn the skills and gain the experience to excel in the substance abuse counseling field. The program will feature hands-on experience with alcohol and other drug counseling. The courses in the program will cover subjects such as Introduction to Substance Abuse and Substance Abuse Treatment and Diversity in Addiction. The program will combine online classes and in-person training that the school hopes will allow students flexibility in their schedule.
“We are thrilled to introduce this new concentration to our Human Services program. The demand for compassionate professionals in the substance abuse counseling field is significant, and this program offers students a clear pathway to earn the necessary clinical hours for certification efficiently,” said Madison Dailey, Health and Physical Education Instructor.
Students will also complete an internship as part of the program in hopes to prepare them to be certified as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor through the Illinois Certification Board. The Substance Abuse Counseling credits can also be transferred to Eastern Illinois University or the University of Illinois in case students want to further their education elsewhere.
