TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Wabash Valley will be hit with frigid temperatures this week, which can severely effect your car.
Brian Niece is the owner of Midas Auto Repair in Terre Haute.
He said this kind of weather can be very difficult on vehicles.
He recommends creating a list of items on your car to periodically check. This includes anti-freeze, belts and hoses for tears, and all fluids.
Niece said most residents are able to start their vehicles in advance, which certainly helps.
He also said to always be prepared in case of an emergency.
“I would start it, as most people have remote starts. It is better on the engine to get it warmed up and it is also good on the transmission”, Niece said. “I would also keep jumper cables in your vehicle, in case you do break down, with an emergency kit. Which would be like a flashlight, even a thing of water in there, and a nice blanket. If you get cold and your car won’t start, so I would recommend it.”
Niece said the easiest way to keep your car running without issue in this weather is planning to leave five to ten minutes earlier than usual and use that time to let your car heat up.
