VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — During Monday’s Presidents Day, Grouseland in Vincennes celebrated by teaching people about presidential history, especially the 9th President of the United States.
Indiana’s own William Henry Harrison served as the President of the United States for 32 days before passing away on April 4, 1841. Harrison’s presidency was the shortest of all U.S. presidents and Harrison was the first president to pass away in office.
Harrison also served as Governor of the Indiana Territory, before going on to become president.
Harrison Built Grouseland and lived in the home with his family, and today the Grouseland Foundation gave visitors a tour and hosted various games and activities.
“The house has recently been restored. It’s the authentic construction and everything has been restored to the way that it would have been when he lived here,” said Lisa Ice-Jones executive director of the Grouseland Foundation.
Later in the afternoon, visitors could also enjoy a live raptor program featuring a hawk. A large campaign ball was also brought on-site for photos.
