TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Officials confirmed that a new Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) has been filed in Union Health’s acquisition of Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Chief Communications Officer Greta Sanderson confirmed that the application was received and that the IDOH is conducting its initial review.
As WTWO/WAWV reported in November, Union Health withdrew a previous COPA but stated that it was committed to the process.
In November, Union Health stated, in part, “We believe it is best to withdraw the current application to allow time for Union Health and Terre Haute Regional to continue to work with IDOH, to ensure the benefits, including improved access, quality, prevention and early intervention, are outlined in the new application,”
In a press release from Union Health, they said that “the purpose of the merger is to improve the health and wellness of ALL Wabash Valley citizens.”
Union also said that some benefits anticipated by the merger include an increase in coordination of care and physical specialization, expansion of Population Health initiatives, an increase in local access and more.
