TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun and his wife Paiton are holding the Bundles of Hope Baby Supply Drive and Tuesday, the effort received a large donation from Duke Energy and United Way.
“Just seeing Duke Energy and United Way always step up and always help meet that need is inspiring as they are true community partners,” said Sakbun. “A lot of people when they think of duke is just power lines and lineman. They do great at that, but they also do great at investing in our community.”
This donation of formula, diapers, clothes, and socks will add to the hundreds of other items collected at over 25 donation spots across the county. Sakbun said that he got emotional seeing how many people wanted to be involved in this drive.
“When you look at these businesses and churches what is the similarity that they all have, that’s a good heart,” said Sakbun. “That just shows when you rally a community together behind a common cause, you can do better, and you can grow. We appreciate all of them for their support.”
Sakbun thinks supporting the community should be a top priority for local government. That’s why they plan to continue efforts like this in the future.
“Naturally, when people think of government, they get a little frustrated, but that is not us at the local level,” said Sakbun. “We are one call away from trying to help and do what we can. Sometimes that is connecting individuals to other resources and sometimes, like this Saturday, it is giving resources to another individual.”
The last day to donate is February 13 and the drive will be held on February 15 at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The drive is open to Vigo County residents.
