TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Union Hospital received its second “Magnet” recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The organization identifies superior quality in nursing.
“The special thing about our second designation is that it not just includes Union Hospital, but Union Hospital Clinton and all of practices that are part of our medical group,” said Director of Clinical Education at Union Health Amy Allen.
According to Union Health, to receive this honor a hospital must pass a rigorous and lengthy application process. Among the things it must show is consistent patient satisfaction with nurses and their instructions, decrease fall rates and a lower risk of patient death in the 30 days following a hospital visit.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center says only 9.8 percent of hospitals in the U.S. have this accreditation. Those at Union Hospital say they’re proud to achieve the recognition and it shows the hospital’s dedication to quality patient care.
“We’re very, very proud of the work that our teams do in patient care,” added Amy Allen.
Other area hospitals with this certification are Good Samaritan in Vincennes, IU Health in Bloomington, and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. A hospital must re-apply for this certification every four years.
