TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Lots of local organizations are stepping up to help those in need this winter, as the cold temperatures continue to hit the Wabash Valley, including St. Benedict Church.
On the third Saturday of each month, the Secular Franciscans and Friends of Terre Haute invite anyone who is in need to come to the St. Benedict dining hall from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
There, youth volunteers serve biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, and sausage to make sure everyone starts their day off the right way.
The church has been doing this for quite some time now, not only to feed people in need, but also give guests a chance to step out of the winter weather.
One member of the Secular Franciscans, Mark Kester, says his favorite part of each Saturday is the people.
“It’s nice to help out. It’s nice to be a part of something with the church that helps out with the community, meet new people”, Kester said. “That is the best part of this, the most rewarding part. Coming in and seeing people enjoy a meal, enjoying fellowship. There’s a lot of laughs in there and it’s just nice to see.”
St. Benedict church holds this breakfast on the third Saturday of each month, in their dining hall, which is located in the building at the corner of Ninth and Walnut streets.
