MARION COUNTY, Mo. – Authorities say the body of an Illinois woman reported missing last month was recovered Thursday in rural Missouri.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Quincy Police Department confirmed that the body of Britney D. Hoffman-Kelly was found Thursday in Marion County.
According to authorities and previous FOX 2 reports, Hoffman-Kelly was last believed to have been heard from in St. Charles, Missouri, on Dec. 14, 2024.
Following her disappearance and analysis from St. Charles and Quincy police detectives, a large-scale multi-agency search was conducted Wednesday near County Road 439 in Marion County. Around 4 p.m. Thursday, a nearby landowner discovered that Hoffman-Kelly’s body was on their property and alerted authorities, according to the Quincy Police Department.
Quincy police say two individuals came forward with information that helped with locating a suspect in Lewis County, Missouri. Police say the suspect had shared information with them about Hoffman and his intent to kill law enforcement officers. No officers were hurt in connection with this case.
Quincy police did not identify the suspect in a Friday news release over Hoffman-Kelly’s death. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation into her death is an “open matter,” but says there is no further threat to the public associated with this case.
