SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The town of Shelburn’s Wastewater Superintendent warns residents and businesses not to dump oil into the wastewater system.
According to a Facebook post by the town of Shelburn on Tuesday morning, several gallons of oil were dumped into the wastewater system. After an investigation, the oil dumping was traced back to the west side of HWY 41.
Dustin Geatches, Wastewater Superintendent said, “Dumping oil into our wastewater system has the potential to have bad effects on the wastewater treatment plant and the receiving stream. It has been reported to IDEM/EPA and if we find out who is responsible, they will be reported and face consequences for this action.”
Geatches told WTWO that there is no concern for residents at this time. The effects would directly impact the plant.
