TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The city of Terre Haute is requiring residents to register their animals with the city.
According to a news release, the Terre Haute City Code Sections 6-71 requires all residents of Terre Haute to register their dog or cat if they are over the age of three months beginning Tuesday. The Terre Haute Clerk’s Office will be accepting the applications online or in their office and a copy of the pet’s current rabies vaccination is required.
You can also upload a photo in your online application or bring one in when filling out the application. This can assist if your pet happens to get lost, and can be used to identify the animal and who it belongs to. Once your application is approved the city will present you with a pet license for your records.
“One of the reasons for keeping your animals registered with the city of Terre Haute is to allow the animal control officers, and the code enforcement and the Terre Haute Police Department, if your animal would get lost, they can share that information with the humane society so that we could also help you find your animal, if your animal’s not microchipped.” said Michelle Edwards, City Clerk.
The licenses will cost differently according to Edwards. The cost for a year-long pet license for a spayed or neutered animal is $15 a year or $50 for a lifetime license and a one-year license for an animal not spayed or neutered will be $75 a year. The city of Terre Haute’s website also states that if you have more than six animals that you will have to pay for a kennel license costing $100 and you can also apply for a breeder’s license once you have obtained your kennel license.
