VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vincennes State Historic Site will be open for free tours on Monday, in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
Visitors can explore the first public school, first capital building and first print shop from when Indiana was a territory.
The sites will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and in honor of the holiday, they’ll also have information about African American history in Southern Indiana.
“It’s important for anybody to learn the history of any place they live. I think that this place is special because of it’s so old and has a lot of history that many people who live here don’t even realize,” said Vincennes State Historic Sites Program Developer, Jon Mays.
Registration for guided tours on Martin Luther King Day is required by January 17.
Also, on Friday January 24 at 6 p.m., Vincennes State Historic Site will hold an event about African American history in Southern Indiana.
